    2015 miles in 2015

Recently I saw a suggestion somewhere (and now I can’t remember where… oops!) that instead of setting a New Year’s Resolution, you should pick a word and make that your goal for the year.  For example, your word could be “brave,” and you would focus your energy on being brave.  This helps to relieve the pressure of a resolution, and allows you to set goals based on your word.  It sounded amazing to me, and I am always up for a new goal setting session! I had a hard time thinking of a word to use, but I think I have settled on “push.”  Everything I want to do…

    Podcast Playlist

On our road trip to Colorado, we started listening to the Serial podcast. I know I’m way behind on this and it’s no newsflash to most people, but holy cow was Serial amazing! Seriously we made it to Colorado with 2 episodes left and thought about driving a few more hours to finish it. We didn’t, but we wanted to. Now that I have had my fill of Serial, I’m looking for other podcast suggestions.  I currently love listening to “On Being” and “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me,” and I’m looking to add a few more to listen to while running (think: podcasts not featured on NPR). What podcasts do you…

    New Year’s Resolutions

It’s that time of the year where everyone around me seems to be thinking about/ dreading one word: “resolutions.” Do you set resolutions? I usually don’t, mainly because long term goals like that are extra scary to me, and I know that they don’t stick. However, I do try to make short term goals related to long term goals. Last year I made it a goal to read 12 books in the year, which meant I really only had to read one book a month. Looking at it that way, it wasn’t so scary, and I actually ended up reading quite a lot more than I had wanted. I also…

    Links for the Weekend

Happy Saturday all!  I’m off celebrating with the in-laws, but here are some super awesome links for your to enjoy! I know I can’t be the only one obsessed with her, and this made me really want to be best friends with her.  Turns out, even the Duchess can throw some looks. Some great tips for not dying of boredom on the treadmill.  Do you run on the treadmill?  I hate it so much that I call it the dreadmill, but Hungry Runner Girl may convince me to move it inside a few times. Oh my, this story may have had me crying.  The look on the dog’s face when…

    High Five for Friday 12.19

Wow what a week it’s been!  I am so looking forward to the next few weeks filled with family, including this weekend with my in-laws where we will be celebrating my sister-in-law’s graduation and exchanging Christmas gifts! Here is a recap of my week: 1. Saturday was my birthday and my husband spoiled me rotten by taking me shopping at the outlets, then heading to Omaha for a fun-filled night of an amazing dinner and drinks.  In addition to spoiling me with fun activities, my husband also gave me amazing new jewelry!  Great job hubby! 2. I SENT OUT CHRISTMAS CARDS THIS YEAR!  This is a big milestone in my…

    December Birchbox Review

I have been subscribing to Birchbox for years now and I still love it as much as I when I first signed up.  If you don’t know, Birchbox is a beauty subscription service where you get 5-6 samples a month.  My favorite part is that you can then leave reviews, and you receive points for each review your write.  For every 100 points you rack up, you get $10 in Birchbox credit to spend in the store! December’s box was all about being “Decked Out!”  Even the box was a fun shade of blue with an awesome gold design!  (Of course I forgot to take a picture of my box…

    Links for the Weekend

Happy Saturday! Today is my birthday (woohoo!) and I’m off celebrating with my hubby.  Also, the date today is 12-13-14, which I think is pretty cool (and now you know that I am a true type A person because I love that the numbers are in sequential order…. ha!). Here are some good reads for your weekend: Stories like this make me so happy. #lovewins Do you run near hunting grounds? Better be careful! How terrifying! Have you watched the Getaway? It’s a fabulous show on Esquire, and between that and anything Anthony Bourdain, my husband and I may just keep cable. An upcoming episode is set in Barcelona! We loved that…

    High Five for Friday!

Hi!  How are you?  How was your week?  Mine was crazy busy, but also so good.  I’m looking forward to the weekend, but this past week was so great. Here is a recap of some highlights: 1.  This weekend my sweet 7 year old corgi, with her short stumpy legs, ran her first ever 5k race!!! I was so proud of her. She only took a few walk breaks and “potty breaks” (where she pretends she has to pee but she is just really resting) and ended up finishing in 42 minutes! Run, Sasha, run! Look at that face!  This about at the halfway point.  She was sooo happy! 2.This…

    My Running Story

I have been running for several years now.  I started mainly as a stress reliever and to have something to do.  I quickly learned it made me feel better and turned out to be a great stress reliever for me.  Counter-intuitively, it also helps me manage my asthma. I ran a lot just to run, but eventually started adding a few races to the mix.  I ran several 5ks, then did a couple 10ks before signing up for a half marathon.  I ran/ walked through two half marathons with the goal of just finishing.  (Oh, and not finishing last!) Right after finishing half marathon #2: Deadwood Mickelson Trail Last year…
