New Year’s Resolutions

imageIt’s that time of the year where everyone around me seems to be thinking about/ dreading one word: “resolutions.”

Do you set resolutions? I usually don’t, mainly because long term goals like that are extra scary to me, and I know that they don’t stick. However, I do try to make short term goals related to long term goals.

Last year I made it a goal to read 12 books in the year, which meant I really only had to read one book a month. Looking at it that way, it wasn’t so scary, and I actually ended up reading quite a lot more than I had wanted.

I also make monthly goals related to exercise. I am not only of those people who can say “I am going to lose 10 pounds” and then do it. It just doesn’t work for me, but if it works for you, you go girl! (or boy!)

Instead, I make monthly workout goals based on how I am feeling. If I have had a particularly stressful week, I may make a goal to do yoga at least 2 times a week for the next month. If I notice I did not run very many miles, I might make a goal to run at least a mile a day 5 days a week. I find I almost always exceed my goals, and the variety helps me from getting bored.

I haven’t decided whether I am going to make a “resolution” this year. I really liked my reading 12 books resolution, so I’m hoping to continue that into 2015, but I would also like to add something new.

So, what are your current goals?  Do you set resolutions?  If so, how do you keep on track?
