    2017: a review

If I had to choose one word to sum up 2017 it would be “wild.” When I sat down to start listing all that happened in our lives, I was amazed. Most amazing of all were all the changes Emerson went through and all her accomplishments. She started out the year not walking and now she runs circles around us. She survived a nasty bout of RSV that landed us back in the hospital for a few days. She was barely talking in January, and now she talks nonstop in full sentences. She’s rambunctious and precocious and so much fun to be around. She loves to read and explore and…

    MOTD 12.28

Every once in a while the hardest part of my day is deciding what colors to wear. I have been trying out new and different (for me) color combinations lately, and this one has me like 😍 Using blue and orange together can be tricky, but put together a peachy rose gold with a teal liner and the results are basically magical, if I do say so myself. MOTD 12.27

Today I tried another one of my new to me palettes, and I really enjoyed it! Whenever I use a really cool toned eye (like today where I used mainly purples with a gray crease), I like to warm up my lips juuuuust a tidbit with a warmer mauve or burgundy. It always turn out 👍🏻 Face Primer: Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and smashbox photo finish hydrating under eye primer Concealer: maybelline age rewind in light Contour: NYX 3 steps to sculpt palette  (just a tiny touch in the hollows of my cheekbones) Bronzer: Tarte Park Ave Princess bronzer Blush: Tarte Amazonian clay blush in genius Highlight: smashbox spotlight…

Happy Happy Holidays, y’all!  Is anyone else in a total funk after their holiday celebrations have ended? Just me? Luckily I was totally spoiled for Christmas, and my family knows me well because I mainly walked away with makeup- ha!  Today I had to try it all out and I am happ-happ-happy with how it all turned out! Face Primer: Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and smashbox photo finish hydrating under eye primer Concealer: maybelline age rewind in light Contour: NYX 3 steps to sculpt palette  (just a tiny touch in the hollows of my cheekbones) Bronzer: Tarte Park Ave Princess bronzer Blush: Tarte Amazonian clay blush in paaarty Highlight:…

MOTD 12.18: how to get FREE makeup!

Yesterday I went Christmas shopping at Ulta and (surprisingly!) only spent $10 on myself!  (Pats self on back…) One of the presents I bought was supposed to come with a gift with purchase, but they were all out when I got there.  The cashier sweetly threw more makeup samples in my bag to make up for it, and it reminded me that we haven’t chatted about how to get free makeup at makeup stores! Both Ulta and Sephora will give out lots of samples.  Ulta you usually need to ask for them, but Sephora almost always throw them in the bag when you check out.  Also, if there are any…

Holiday look 5: oh Christmas Tree!

I would be remiss if I did a bunch of Holiday looks and go without a true red and green look.  Pulling off red and green makeup together can be triiiiiicky and can quickly turn taaaaacky.  I think I avoided the tack, but I’ll let you decide. When you want to go all out and use all the Christmas colors, this is your look!   Face Primer: Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and smashbox photo finish hydrating under eye primer Concealer: maybelline age rewind in light Foundation: Covergirl simply ageless foundation Contour: NYX 3 steps to sculpt palette  (just a tiny touch in the hollows of my cheekbones) Bronzer: Tarte…

Holiday look 4: glitter cut crease

Picture this: It’s a week day, midafternoon. I have a baby napping who has been sick, so I wash my face and throw a bunch of dry shampoo in my hair.  I do a fancy-ish updo and put on some fancy makeup to pretend that I’m going somewhere fancy.  And now you have pictured my super fancy day, and I’ll go wash this glitter off 😉 Sometimes you just need an extra oomph of glitter, but don’t want to go all 90s with it.  Here’s my suggestion– just use a little bit as an accent.  Here I went with a wild (for me!) cut crease attempt, but you could…

Holiday look 3: using (mostly) Elf makeup

Over Black Friday weekend, Elf cosmetics was having a 50% off sale and I couldn’t resist. I pretty much bought one of everything. I skipped the lip products because I haven’t had luck with them in the past. Elf is very hit or miss for me. But when it’s good, it’s gooooood. Today I tried out a bunch of different and new to me items. Some were a no go for me, some were so-so, and some were great! All the details are below. I think this look would be great for a family get together.  It would be even better if you paired it with some fancy sweats and…

Holiday look 2: glowy and glossy

Sometimes you just need an easy but beautiful look for a party, and this one is probably my favorite easy look.  To get this look I used extra (and then some extra extra) bronzer, and even put some of the bronzer on my eyes.  This glowy look would be perfect with absolutely any outfit that you wear.  Any glossy and opaque lip gloss would be perfect.   Face Primer: Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and smashbox photo finish hydrating under eye primer Concealer: maybelline age rewind in light Foundation: Covergirl simply ageless foundation Contour: NYX 3 steps to sculpt palette  (just a tiny touch in the hollows of my cheekbones)…

Holiday Look 1: day to night

Who has a party scheduled for right after work?  I feel like those are the hardest for me, as I usually want to wear a bright red and some smokey eyes for every holiday party.  An easy way to accomplish that look without being too glam throughout the day is to do a soft smokey eye with little to no lip color and then throw on your red lip right before the party!   If you don’t already have a red lipstick, the one I am wearing is gorgeous, but I also just bought this one today, and wowza it’s beautiful! Face Primer: Smashbox photo finish foundation primer and…
