2017: a review

If I had to choose one word to sum up 2017 it would be “wild.” When I sat down to start listing all that happened in our lives, I was amazed.

Most amazing of all were all the changes Emerson went through and all her accomplishments. She started out the year not walking and now she runs circles around us. She survived a nasty bout of RSV that landed us back in the hospital for a few days. She was barely talking in January, and now she talks nonstop in full sentences. She’s rambunctious and precocious and so much fun to be around. She loves to read and explore and travel, and she did all those things so well this year. We celebrated her 2nd birthday with lots of music and cake!

As a family we took trips to Stratton, Colorado, Moab, and Oklahoma City. Kevin and I also went on a solo trips to Savannah and Kansas City. We learned Emerson is a fantastic traveler and we all love to explore together.

2017 brought strife with our new President, but it also brought out our fighting spirits. We attended many rallies and made even more phone calls to elected leaders.

Personally I ran 2 half marathons and then quit running altogether (ha!) but am hoping to get back into it again in 2018.

Emerson started a new daycare (which we love!), I moved offices (again 🙄), and we finally made it to Junkstock (twice! And Em met a “yama!”).

At home, we got a lot of projects done, including a huge backyard project of ripping out a giant overgrown garden and termite filled raised garden beds. We also painted our master bedroom and stripped the kitchen cabinets.

I think my favorite parts of 2017, though, was getting ALL the family photos. I’ll cherish these forever and may require them to continue every year from now until the end of time.

I am really looking forward to next year, but I also feel so thankful for 2017. It really was wild, but it was also so wonderful.
